Yesterday I went to a new support group in Biggleswade,
Bedfordshire called The Avenue @TheAvenueASD which has opened for families of
children with ASD. It is held twice a
month at the Pentecostal Church, Crab Lane – the first Friday of every month
from 9.30 – 11.30am and the third Tuesday of every month from 12.30 – 2.30pm.
It is a group with a difference as children are welcome and
if a session falls within a school holiday, it will still be open. I know as a family we will appreciate this
facility as it is often during the holidays that you need extra support. ASD children can struggle being at home out
of their normal routine and so the level of meltdowns can increase and parents
need to be able to talk to others that understand. Plus it will give children the chance to
socialise with others, which is a skill they can struggle with and siblings of
ASD children will be able to meet other siblings. There was lots of information available and a
small selection of sensory/communication aids to purchase.
Check out their website to get a list of dates the support
group is open and other useful information www.theavenuesupport.co.uk
